EMT411 Using ICT with Children (8)

This subject will examine pedagogies, trends, and issues that underpin learning and communication through new digital technologies in the pre-school and primary classroom.  
It is designed to facilitate the safe and responsible use of digital technologies. Throughout this subject, students will gain hands-on experience in working through the methods of how to use digital and online technologies appropriately in educational settings, with a special emphasis on integrating them into the curriculum and developing opportunities for creative expression.
Students will practise critical evaluation of, and effectiveness in, changes in technologies to remain current in a rapidly advancing culture.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to illustrate an understanding of the pedagogy behind the individual and/or collaborative nature of the use of digital resources in the classroom;
  • be able to integrate digital resources and technologies into learning and teaching environments to enhance creative and differentiated learning;
  • be able to critique software for educational use as well as software for the purpose of planning and assessment;
  • be able to effectively search for and evaluate digital resources and technologies to support curriculum and learning activities; and
  • be able to identify and resolve ethical and legal issues in the classroom environment (e.g. online bullying, equity).
