EPT328 Professional Experience 4 Extended Placement: Early Childhood and Primary (8)

This subject provides students in their final year of the course the opportunity to demonstrate their self-sufficiency and independence as critically reflective professional teachers of children from birth  12 years of age. Students will undertake two 5-week blocks of professional experience across this continuum of educational setting. They will participate in learning experiences that require them to observe and interact with children, design learning tasks, assess, evaluate and reflect on their teaching and the contribution of this experience to their professional growth.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to use diagnostic, formative and summative assessment to inform teaching and learning design in the primary classroom and to provide feedback to students and relevant staff to improve learning outcomes;
  • be able to evaluate learning plans through authentic annotations and amendments to plans following the implementation of each learning experience;
  • be able to build professional relationships with children and interpersonal engagement with professional stakeholders within the learning context; and,
  • be able to develop a situational analysis of both the Early Childhood and Primary School contexts, including descriptive observations and analysis of children, staff and the environment to inform practice and learning design; and,
  • be able to reflect on their professional development through the compilation of a teaching portfolio demonstrating their achivement of the Australian Professional Teaching Standards at graduate level.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 50 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students will undertake two 5-week blocks of mentored professional experience. One will be in a 0-5 setting (25 days) and one in a K-6 school setting (25 days) during term 3 (and maybe 4).
