The subject assists students in understanding the importance of high quality verbal and written communication in relation to health management and leadership. This understanding is then applied to specific contexts including the conduct of meetings, presentation of health data and in decision-making. The aim is to assist students in becoming impactful communicators in key areas of health management and leadership practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to communicate verbally and in writing in a way that is authentic, impactful and appropriate for health managers and leaders;
  • be able to evaluate the effectiveness of workplace meetings with an emphasis on purpose, organisation and decision-making; and
  • be able to verbally and visually communicate health data and information in a way that is factual and credible.

  • Verbal and written communication skills contextualised to health management and leadership;
  • Effective meetings;
  • Group facilitation and problem-solving;
  • Presentation skills; and
  • Communication with the media.
