Students consider key legislation, accountabilities, responsibilities and policy related to health management and leadership. They also explore contract management and conflict of interest. Underpinning this are the concepts of praxis and ethical leadership, which offer students a mechanism for framing and enacting legal and ethical responsibilities in their practice.

Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Health Management and Leadership, Master of Health Management and Leadership or with CD approval.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically discuss the concepts 'praxis' and 'ethical leadership' in relation to heath management and leadership;
  • be able to apply key legislation, including workers compensation and industrial awards, to health management and leadership;
  • be able to evaluate grievances and complaints policies;
  • be able to discuss accountabilities and delegations related to health service governance structures, fiduciary responsibilities, and identify mechanisms for communicating these;
  • be able to identify procedures designed to protect private information;
  • be able to review work processes from tendering to the development and review of external contracts; and
  • be able to describe potential conflict of interest situations.
