This subject is designed to provide a theoretical foundation for the contribution that training can be expected to make towards the development of the performance capabilities of management and employees. These performance capabilities will form the basis for the development of sustainable competitive advantage. Training and retraining will be necessary when an organisation shifts to a strategy requiring different skills, competitive capabilities, managerial approaches and operating methods.
