HSM411 Creativity, Innovation and Change (Health Services) (8)

Students will learn about contemporary conceptualisations of creativity, innovation and change. Students will complete a range of work based assessments which will involve investigating ways to judiciously facilitate creativity, innovation and change. This is one of three subjects undertaken as part of the Graduate Certificate in Leading Change or as a coursework elective stream designed to be taken as a capstone experience in the Master of Health Services Management following completion of the eight core subjects.

Assumed Knowledge

HSM411 is one of three subjects undertaken as part of The Graduate Certificate in Leading Change or as a coursework elective stream designed to be taken as a capstone experience in the Master of Health Service Management. It is assumed that students will have completed all core subjects in the Master of Health Services Management prior to enrolling in this subject when undertaking it as part of the Masters program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe and compare different conceptualisations of creativity, innovation and change and the relationships between these;
  • be able to analyse health services as sites of creativity, innovation and change;
  • be able to critically evaluate illustrations of creativity, innovation and change in reference to their own health service and according to different worldviews;
  • be able to discuss manager and staff agency roles in relation to the judicious facilitation of creativity, innovation and change;
  • be able to explain how creativity, innovation and change can be facilitated in a health service; and
  • be able to undertake research activities consistent with the use of research questions, justify the methodology applied to data collection and analysis, discuss the significant findings and make recommendations based on the evidence presented.

  • The notion of agency in a system of creativity, innovation and change
  • The research process
  • Completion of the CSU Indigenous Cultural Competency Program (ICCP)
