This subject discusses the role and value of research in information agencies. It looks at the role of research in evidence-based professional practice, with a focus on the evaluation of research literature and interpretation of research results. This subject introduces research concepts and practices appropriate to professional practice.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • have a broad understanding of the types of research relevant to, and applied in, libraries, information agencies and other professional settings;
  • have a general understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice;
  • be able to critically evaluate completed research; and
  • be able to apply research evaluation skills appropriate in professional environments.
