The subject provides an overview of contexts within which enquiry is undertaken, and introduces candidates to the role and potential of research in information studies. The subject provides a grounding in research traditions, paradigms and methodologies relevant to information studies. Candidates study the use of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods and their application to information studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate an understanding of the contexts within which research in information studies is undertaken; and
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of the qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research skills and expertise necessary to undertake research in the information studies field.
