ITC355 Network Design (8)

This subject is designed to provide students with experience in the architecture, components and operations of routers and switches in a more complex network environment. Students will design, test and analyse large and complex networks. Concepts covered in this subject enable students to develop advanced skills related to dynamic routing protocols, switching protocols, Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Routings, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Network Address Translation (NAT), Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Wide Area Network (WAN) design and troubleshooting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to explain and evaluate the nature and operations of different LAN and WAN technologies;
  • be able to explain, analyse and troubleshoot different routing and switching protocols;
  • be able to design and evaluate the tasks related to configuring the efficient and secure use of large sized networks;
  • be able to design, verify, and solve a variety problems of VLANs and WANs;
  • be able to monitor, troubleshoot and critically analyse high-level network performance.

  • Building a small to medium-sized network.
  • DHCP.
  • The spanning tree protocol.
  • Link aggregation.
  • Troubleshooting layer two issues.
  • Implementing Enhanced Interios Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP).
  • Implementing multi-area Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
  • IOS file management.
  • Connecting to the WAN.
  • Configuring serial connections.
  • Broadband solutions.
  • Securing site-to-site connectivity.
  • Monitoring the network.
  • Troubleshooting the network.
  • Network architectures.

Residential School

This subject contains a 4 day Compulsory Residential School.

There are two compulsory residential schools in this subject. One is held during the teaching break (2 days) and another is held in the end of session (2 days).

Purpose:
The inclusion of the Cisco Networking Academy Program requires all students to undertake practical based assessment activities conducted in a networking laboratory.

3. Invigilated Online Cisco examination
