It addresses a range of contemporary topics in philosophy including ethics, philosophy of science, political philosophy, epistemology and metaphysics. Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate a grasp of basic philosophical techniques of analysis and argument;
  • be able to describe and understand philosophical arguments and problems; and
  • be able to apply their skills of analysis and argument, and their understanding of theories, to the clarification and resolution of philosophical problems/issues.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • The analysis and evaluation of below philosophical problems
  • How we could know whether or not God exists
  • Whether we should believe scientific theories
  • What is an ideal political state to live in
  • How we might try to resolve moral dilemmas
  • Whether we can know that the world around us exists
