SSS061 CSU Connect: Preparation for Studying Business (8)

This subject aims to develop essential skills required for study in selected business courses within the Faculty of Business, Justice and Behavioural Science. The first part of the subject develops students' basic skills in maths and statistics within a business context through a closely guided, paced, supportive learning process. The second part of this subject introduces students to the use of conceptual frameworks in business studies. The preparation of students during this subject is enhanced by learning experiences that simulate those required for successful participation in the first year of undergraduate study.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to use a calculator proficiently to solve problems;
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the mathematical standards and techniques required for some subjects in a Business degree;
  • Be able to perform a variety of functions using the Microsoft Excel software program;
  • Be able to communicate in a mathematical way;
  • Be able to explain how theories and models are used to make sense of business data;
  • Be able to apply methods of reasoning and argument to critically analyse information.
