Normal Course Duration

Course duration referenced below is the effective time taken to complete a course when studied full time (full time equivalent duration). At Charles Sturt the standard calendar refers to 32 points a session over a 2 session calendar year. The Actual Duration is the time taken to complete the course following the prescribed enrolment pattern. A course's actual duration can be affected by the session calendar (number of sessions undertaken per year) and/or mode (full time, part time or mixed) and credit packages which may have been granted unpon admission. Therefore, depending on the prescribed enrolment pattern, mode, calendar utilised and credit awarded a course may take less time or more time to complete than the duration noted as full time equivalent years. Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern to determine the actual duration of study.

Graduate Diploma of Psychology

Full-time: 1.0 year (or part-time equivalent)

Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from an appropriate tertiary institution and must have completed subjects PSY101 and PSY102 or their equivalents. The core first year psychology subjects from the Charels Sturt Bachelor of Psychology (or their equivalents) are prerequisites for entry into this course.

Credit

CSU Credit Policy

Credit for psychology subjects taken at other institutions can only be granted for equivalent subjects in APAC accredited courses.

  1. Credit in the Graduate Diploma of Psychology will normally be given for any individual psychology subjects studied within the last ten years that were part of an APAC accredited university undergraduate program. The maximum number of credits is four subjects but no more than three of the following subjects will be credited (PSY461 Advanced Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology, PSY464 Psychopathology, PSY465 Psychology of Personality, PSY467 Cognition, PSY468 Psychology of Learning PSY469 Qualitative Research Methods). Students should indicate which subjects they would like to receive credit for and provide a subject description from the handbook.
  2. Students whose psychology major is more than 10 years old will normally meet prerequisites for entry only.

Where students did not receive grades of Credit or better in previously studied psychology subjects, careful consideration should be given to whether or not credit is applied for for those subjects as they may lower the overall GPA for entry to fourth year programs.

Also where a student's PSY101 and PSY102 (or equivalent) is more than 10 years old students should obtain a recent copy of a first year psychology text and refamiliarise themselves with the basic principles of psychology.
