Normal Course Duration

Course duration referenced below is the effective time taken to complete a course when studied full time (full time equivalent duration). At Charles Sturt the standard calendar refers to 32 points a session over a 2 session calendar year. The Actual Duration is the time taken to complete the course following the prescribed enrolment pattern. A course's actual duration can be affected by the session calendar (number of sessions undertaken per year) and/or mode (full time, part time or mixed) and credit packages which may have been granted unpon admission. Therefore, depending on the prescribed enrolment pattern, mode, calendar utilised and credit awarded a course may take less time or more time to complete than the duration noted as full time equivalent years. Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern to determine the actual duration of study.

Admission Criteria

Master of Business Administration (with specialisations)

Master of Business Administration

Applicants are required to have:

  • an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) in a business discipline
    OR
  • an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) in ANY discipline and relevant work experience.

Applicants with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) in a non-business discipline who do not possess sufficient work experience may be admitted to the MBA 16 subject program and will be required to complete four additional specified business subjects as part of their degree.

Applicants without a bachelor degree qualification may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Commerce on the basis of a combination of:

  • prior post secondary study and/or professional attainment
    AND
  • significant relevant work experience.

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master Business Administration and receive credit for applicable subjects.

 

Master of Business Administration (16 subject)

Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or equivalent) in ANY discipline.

Applicants without a bachelor degree qualification may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Commerce on the basis of a combination of:

  • prior post secondary study and/or professional attainment, and
  • significant relevant work experience.

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master Business Administration and receive credit for applicable subjects.

Credit into the Master of Business Administration is awarded based on studies completed at postgraduate or equivalent level. Students may receive credit for up to 50% of the course (six 8 point subjects) for studies completed within the last ten years.

No credit will be given for subjects completed at the undergraduate level. However, in some circumstances, candidates may be waived from taking particular subjects, e.g. a candidate with a Bachelor degree majoring in Accounting may be waived from undertaking the Core subject MBA504 Accounting and Financial Management. In such instances, an alternative subject may be substituted.

Master of Business Administration (128 point)

Credit into the Master of Business Administration is awarded based on studies completed at postgraduate or equivalent level. Students may receive credit for up to 50% of the course (eight 8 point subjects) for studies completed within the last ten years.

The twelve subject (96 point) MBA includes subjects divided into four groups. The course structure provides students with the ability to tailor their degree to suit their needs and career aspirations.

Master of Business Administration (16 subjects)

This extended version of the MBA serves as an entry point for students who have completed a Bachelor degree in a field other than business and who have not met the work experience requirement. Students enrolled in this extended version will complete an extra four subjects as required in the program. The sixteen subject (128 point) MBA includes subjects divided into four groups.

1. Core Subjects: Students need to complete all three core subjects as listed for the MBA 12 subject program.

2. Restricted Elective Subjects Set A and B: Students need to complete one subject from Restricted Elective Set A and four subjects from the Restricted Elective Set B subjects as per MBA 12 subject program.

3. Specialisations / Restricted Electives Set C: Students need to complete an additional 32 credit points by selecting from a combination of subjects from the remaining Restricted Electives (Set A, B or C) and / or Specialisation subjects offered within the MBA 12 subject program.

Students who complete one of the designated Specialisations will graduate with the Specialisation name on their testamur. If a subject completed as part of the core or Restricted Elective (Set A or B) is also a required subject in a Specialisation, students must complete an additional subject as approved by the Course Director. Subjects cannot be counted towards both groups.

4. Professional Development Subjects: Students admitted to the sixteen subject (128 point) MBA must complete the following subjects

Enrolment Pattern

Due to the flexibility of the course requirements, there is no prescribed enrolment pattern. Using the following guidelines, students may choose the order in which they undertake subjects. Students are advised to complete the 3 core subjects first. Students must meet any pre-requisite requirements.

For students admitted to the sixteen subject MBA, it is recommended that the 5 core subjects be completed first.
