ACT127 Integrative Practices (8)

In this subject, students are provided with a transdisciplinary approach to actor training and production. In order to create fully rounded artists, students are exposed to a variety of methods and practices of integrating voice, movement, acting and contemporary performance and production practices. This subject will not only deal with the fundamentals of theatre production, it will also enable the student to grow and develop physical and vocal awareness through integrating production and performance elements.

Assumed Knowledge

It is assumed that students will have undertaken some fundamental acting or performance based learning prior to undertaking this subject equivalent to ACT120 and/or ACT101 or DES110 and/or DES111.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe and apply a synthesis of production elements, character and acting;
  • be able to demonstrate, through practical solo and group scene work, an awareness of psychological and physical actions, and how they integrate with character and imagination;
  • be able to apply fundamental practical principles of lighting, production and design in a range of contexts;
  • be able to integrate body, voice and text and place various texts;
  • be able to work effectively and cooperatively in groups and take direction; and
  • be able to apply techniques of design and stage management in performative and creative contexts.

  • An overview of technical production
  • Psychological and physical actions
  • Integration of movement and voice practices (physiovocality)
  • Physiovocal approaches to text and character
  • Integration of diverse performance and production practices
