BMS162 Health and the Human body: systemic human physiology (8)

This subject provides students with the opportunity to develop foundational knowledge of physiology of the human body systems including cardiovascular, respiratory, and renal systems to support their future careers as allied health professionals. The subject also introduces students to the digestive, endocrine and reproductive systems, including; physiological changes during pregnancy and concepts of heredity. This subject builds on an understanding of the fundamentals of cellular physiology. It assumes knowledge of basic chemistry, biochemistry, cells and tissues.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe normal physiology of the human body, including the endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, digestive and reproductive systems;
  • be able to apply knowledge of systemic physiology in the context of their discipline;
  • be able to interpret the normal interaction of body systems and the implications of disruptions to these systems; and
  • be able to demonstrate foundational skills in the use of scientific language.
