EEL521 Scholarly Teaching and Learning (8)

This subject provides students with the opportunity to further develop their understanding and practice of higher education teaching and learning. Through a series of self-chosen modules, students will have the opportunity to focus on designing supportive and inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of the diverse CSU student profile, exploring a range of disciplinary, practice-based and online pedagogies, including how to apply them to enhance the quality of their teaching and student learning. Students will be assisted to develop their ability to justify their teaching decisions, evaluate the quality of their teaching practice, informed by CSU policies, scholarship and reflective practice.

Enrolment Restrictions

This subject is restricted to CSU staff and CSU partner institution staff who teach CSU students and who are currently engaged in learning and teaching in higher education contexts.

This subject is not available to students who have completed EEL501, EEL502 and EEL513.

Assumed Knowledge

Students will have completed EEL516 prior to completing this subject.  This subject builds on knowledge introduced in EEL516.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to design supportive and inclusive learning environments that are informed by scholarship and CSU policies to promote academic success across the diverse CSU student profile, and social justice for Indigenous Australian students;
  • be able to critique and apply disciplinary, practice-based and/or online pedagogies to enhance the quality of their teaching and student learning;
  • be able to demonstrate professionalism, ethical practices and academic integrity based on informed judgements, reasoning and reflective practices; and
  • be able to justify the quality of their learning designs and teaching practices using CSU policies, contemporary learning theories and scholarship.
