This is the second subject relating to games & sports. The aim of this subject is to consolidate students' understandings of Games and Sports Education theories. Through participation in contemporary and culturally appropriate activities, students will justify and value the need for physical activity in the lives of young people.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to justify the inclusion of contemporary physical activities and culturally-appropriate games in the Health & PE curriculum;
  • be able to identify and participate in a range of contemporary forms of physical activity and culturally appropriate games;
  • be able to develop, rehearse, refine and reflect on pedagogical skills in facilitating learners’ skill development in authentic contexts;
  • be able to critique advocacy strategies that encourage lifelong physical activity participation.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Mosston spectrum of teaching styles;
  • SEPEP - Sport Education in Physical Education Program;
  • Nature and importance of cultural physical activities to communities of young people;
  • Contemporary physical activities;
  • Strategies for employing advocacy for lifelong physical activity.
