EHR335 Work Integrated Learning (Sports Media) (8)

This subject provides students with an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge and skills in the workplace. Students will complete a 60 hour intensive placement in a sports media sub-discipline. Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in industry and develop a professional portfolio comprising sports media products. This will contribute to their professional development and graduate employability. This subject will provide students with the opportunity to work under the guidance of industry professionals in an authentic workplace, will extend the student's disciplinary knowledge and will facilitate the development of professional networks.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to produce sports media product by critically analysing sporting cultures;
  • be able to integrate discipline-specific technical capabilities, communication strategies and self-reflective practice relevant to industry placement;
  • be able to engage actively ethically and morally with industry professionals and sporting personnel;
  • be able to evaluate the socio-politico-cultural and economic issues which effect the sports industry;
  • be able to discuss the diversity of sporting culture across a range of sports on a local, national and global scale.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a ~9 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students will undertake 60 hours of workplace learning, equivalent to approximately 9 days (7 hours/day).

Work placement will be undertaken in various media agencies - print, broadcast, online and social networks. Students will apply theoretical knowledge to practice and develop industry related skills.  Work placement affords the opportunity to network with industry personnel, confront challenges in the workplace and engage in reflective techniques for self-development.

Special Resources

Students will be required to travel to organisations/agencies where work placement hours are being undertaken.
