EMT410 Curriculum Method: Technology Studies (8)

The focus in this subject is on the Years 7-12 TAS classroom and a broad range of Technologies courses. It engages with the development of context appropriate lesson plans, units of work, scope and sequence plans, assessment plans and tasks that are challenging, engaging, and supportive of student learning. Principles and strategies for feedback and reporting will also be addressed. Particular attention will be devoted to the implementation of relevant syllabus and related support documents, effective teaching strategies and assessment design practices including those for contexts with special needs students and literacy and numeracy priorities. Students will study the syllabus associated with their specific area of discipline.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse stage 5 and 6 syllabi and support documents;
  • be able to plan a range of approaches to teaching and learning in TAS;
  • be able to implement effective teaching principles and feedback and reporting strategies;
  • be able to construct technology lesson plans, units of work, assessment, and scope and sequence plans;
  • be able to integrate ICT resources into TAS teaching;
  • be able to differentiate teaching and learning experiences for students with diverse needs and develop effective strategies to meet literacy and numeracy priorities;
  • be able to design standards referenced assessment tasks, plans, feedback and reporting strategies; and
  • be able to initiate and guide learning experiences in a safe working environment.

  • Learning and teaching in specific Technologies courses
  • Appropriate pedagogical approaches for technology contexts and activities
  • Planning lesson sequences, units of work, and scope and sequence plans
  • Implementing ICT in TAS teaching
  • Planning and catering for cultural diversity and including literacy and numeracy needs
  • Assessment of, and for, learning and standards-referenced assessment, feedback and reporting
  • Risk assessment and management
