EPT460 Professional Experience 1: Secondary Context (8)

This subject will enable teacher education students to integrate their knowledge and skills as emerging professionals as they prepare for and complete the professional experience placement. This experience will provide teacher education students with an opportunity to observe, discuss, undertake, and reflect on the work of secondary school teachers. In preparation for the placement, this subject will explore the professional communication skills required for fostering positive educational partnerships with young people and families within local communities.

The placement is designed so that opportunities for collaboration and feedback are scheduled on a regular basis, with supervising teachers and the teacher education student discussing lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching practice. This feedback is designed to be formative and details about progress should be discussed at the middle and end of the placement. The final placement report then forms one of the summative tasks within this subject. The development of a portfolio provides evidence of the student's commitment to, and progression in developing competence in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
