HIP303 Health Promotion Project Management (8)


In this subject, students will design a health promotion project in collaboration with a community based organisation, working in partnership with stakeholders to facilitate a person and community-focused approach to care. The focus of the project will be on community health, wellness, or rehabilitation and students will apply the PRECEDE/PROCEED model of health promotion to inform ethical practice in project planning, implementation and evaluation. Students will work closely with a community organisation in the design of the project with a focus on integrated healthcare and ensuring sustainable healthy communities. This subject will further develop students' skills in academic and digital literacies, and extend their knowledge of research methods, biomedical and social sciences.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to assess the health and wellbeing needs of an identified community, working in partnership with the key stakeholders
  • be able to justify a project that addresses a complex rehabilitation or health and wellbeing need of the identified community
  • be able to complete a critical evaluation of relevant literature to inform project development
  • be able to apply the PRECEDE/PROCEED model to design the project on behalf of an identified community, working in partenrship with the key stakeholders to adopt a community-focused approach to care
  • be able to present the completed project proposal to the identified community and demonstrate successful collaboration with the community stakeholders
  • be able to reflect critically on the project development process

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Health promotion: integrated healthcare; project development; project implementation, evaluation; reflection on community based health promotion initiatives
  • Working with community organisations: developing partnerships with community stakeholders; community-focused collaborative practice; boundary spanning; holistic approach to care; partnerships for common goals
  • Evidence based practice
