HML407 Leadership Practice and Influence in Health Services (4)

Leadership theories are critically analysed and contextualised to health services and their governance structures and processes. Students consider their current or future health leadership contexts and roles and in relation to these receive assistance in reflecting on their leadership performance, especially the effectiveness of their influencing skills. The aim is to support health leadership through reflection.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically analyse prominent leadership theories, contextualising them to health service governance structures and practices;
  • be able to reflect on the value of personality testing and peer feedback and identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; and
  • be able to apply influencing skills to a predetermined scenario.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Leadership theory;
  • Personality trait testing, feedback mechanisms and reflection as means for supporting health leadership; and
  • Influencing skills.
