HML508 Creativity, Innovation and Change (8)

This subject provides students with an opportunity to explore contemporary conceptualisations of creativity, innovation and change and the interrelationships between these. Health manager and staff agency in relation to creativity, innovation and change is investigated as students complete work-based assessments in relation to their current or future health service contexts and roles. The aim is to enable health managers to judiciously facilitate creativity, innovation and change in their workplaces.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe and compare different conceptualisations of creativity, innovation and change and the relationships between these;
  • be able to critically analyse health services as sites of creativity, innovation and change;
  • be able to critically evaluate illustrations of creativity, innovation and change in reference to their current or future health service contexts and roles according to different worldviews;
  • be able to discuss manager and staff agency roles in relation to the judicious facilitation of creativity, innovation and change; and
  • be able to explain how creativity, innovation and change can be facilitated in a health service.

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Health services as sites of creativity, innovation and change;
  • Creativity;
  • Innovation;
  • Change;
  • Multidimensional and multilevel views of creativity, innovation and change;
  • Framing creativity, innovation and change according to different worldviews;
  • The notion of 'agency' in creativity, innovation and change; and
  • The 'dark side' of creativity.
