Students explore current and emerging digital technologies in medical radiation science including image informatics, data reconstruction, and data management systems in order to develop an applied understanding of digital technologies within the clinical environment. Translational knowledge and skills in digital technologies will provide insight and understanding of development of sustainable practices and in connecting to a global community.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe, explain and implement professional practice with specific reference to utilising patient information management systems and managing and /or manipulating 3D image datasets (MRPBA Domain 5);
  • be able to demonstrate critical, analytical, and reflective skills in a range of contexts including clinical problem solving, research and empirical practice, and academic and professional discourse (MRPBA Domain 3);
  • be able to explain and apply the principles of evidence based practice and professional learning with specific reference to critical and reflective thinking to resolve clinical challenges and identifying professional learning needs / life-long learning (MRPBA Domain 3);
  • be able to apply acquired sustainability knowledge individually and collectively for the improvement of local and global social, economic and environmental sustainability;
  • be able to describe and explain the application of digital systems to work effectively with local and global communities and workplaces; and
  • be able to apply digital technology and digital literacy skills for professional practice and research and demonstrate digital citizenship in online learning, professional and social communities (MRPBA Domain 3).

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • MODULE 1:
  • Image informatics, HIS, RIS;
  • Image reconstruction and 3D display; and
  • PACS and DICOM.
  • MODULE 2:
  • Sustainability in Medical Radiation Science and digital sustainable solutions;
  • Medical radiation science, digital technology and the global community; and
  • Emerging technologies.
