Direction and performance in health care organisations, measuring health outcomes, innovations in practice and healthcare workforce development are examined in this subject. An emphasis is placed on the application of theoretical knowledge using case studies to examine quality in the health care environment, strategic management for the healthcare leader and manager and the process of leadership. National and International research identifies leadership development for healthcare managers and leaders as a paramount issue to ensure better organisational outcomes with the development of leadership and management skills seen as a vital aspect for positive and sustainable change and to ensure the sustainability of the health care team.
