This subject contains a 13 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.
Students are required to complete clinical practice as a participant in the Community Engagement and Wellness Centre (CEW).
This subject will provide students with the opportunity to further develop their professional practice as a podiatry practitioner, within a real clinical setting. This subject will also enable students to explore the concept of cultural privilege and how this affects health care and health outcomes for Indigenous Australian peoples. Students will apply and refine skills in the areas of communication, assessment and management, with a particular focus on working with older people. This subject encourages examination of prevailing social attitudes about ageing and the impact these have on choices, opportunities and wellbeing of older people. The subject also introduces various aspects of age related health, biological and social changes and development, and allows students an opportunity to consider different ways of working with older people. Students will investigate elements of the Australian health system and services available to older people in the community, examining opportunities for partnership and health promotion work.
