This subject aims to further develop and extend the knowledge and skills of students in the area of grammatical accuracy in academic writing. Common grammatical errors made in undergraduate studies will be highlighted and correct forms practised in context. It is an online and self-paced subject that allows student discussion and interaction to assist students towards more effective academic writing. Topics focus on common problems encountered in academic writing at university level.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify the role of grammar in academic writing;
  • be able to identify common university tasks that require correct use of grammar;
  • be able to apply academic literacy to a range of types of tasks;
  • be able to produce a short written text that is grammatically correct; and
  • be able to identify resources or services that support development in effective and grammatically accurate academic writing.
