THL560 Issues in Ageing and Pastoral Studies: Project (16)

This subject provides an opportunity for students to undertake theological reflection on ageing through a 10,000 word research project related to an issue in ageing and pastoral studies in which the student advances theoretical and/or practical foundations for ageing, spirituality and pastoral care concerns. It builds on and applies the foundations and methods acquired in THL530 Social Research Methods for Pastoral Studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate a high order of skill in planning and implementing a research project;
  • be able to demonstrate an advanced ability to communicate and contextualise the ageing and pastoral studies project;
  • be able to validate awareness and sensitivity to ethical issues arising from the project in ageing and pastoral studies;
  • be able to produce a thorough, carefully reasoned report which demonstrates an indepth understanding of a specific area of knowledge or inquiry; and
  • be able to demonstrate effective reference and critical engagement with the relevant literature.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:

The supervisor will give guidance to the student in the following areas: - management of a research project; - literature reviews and surveys; - collection and analysis of data; - evaluation and interpretation of analysis; - written presentation of research findings; - professional issues associated with research, including ethics and supervision; and - preparation for publishing findings in appropriate journals.
