Normal Course Duration

Course duration referenced below is the effective time taken to complete a course when studied full time (full time equivalent duration). At Charles Sturt the standard calendar refers to 32 points a session over a 2 session calendar year. The Actual Duration is the time taken to complete the course following the prescribed enrolment pattern. A course's actual duration can be affected by the session calendar (number of sessions undertaken per year) and/or mode (full time, part time or mixed) and credit packages which may have been granted upon admission. Therefore, depending on the prescribed enrolment pattern, mode, calendar utilised and credit awarded a course may take less time or more time to complete than the duration noted as full time equivalent years. Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern to determine the actual duration of study.

Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

Bachelor of Border Management

Applicants for the Bachelor of Border Management must meet the following Admission Requirements:

  • A completed High School Certificate (or equivalent) with an ATAR of at least 60 (including adjustment factors), or
  • Successful completion of at least two Bachelor degree level subjects (or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent) or higher in any discipline, or
  • A completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certificate III or higher, studied at a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent, or
  • A completed Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC) or bridging program studied at a TAFE, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or University, or equivalent, or
  • Partial completion of a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Diploma, of at least 50% from a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or equivalent, or
  • Two years full-time (or equivalent) work experience that demonstrates the development of literacy, analytical skills and broad general knowledge, evidenced by a detailed resume.

English Language Proficiency

Minimum CSU English Language Proficiency Requirements apply.

 

Bachelor of Border Management (Customs)

To be admitted into the course, prospective students must be serving officers currently employed in their customs or border administration departments or ministries.

Only international students with the written approval of their Director General can be admitted.

With this exception admission is according to the standard CSU criteria for undergraduate courses and all the specific requirements in place for the existing Bachelor of Border Management.

Applicants must also meet the CSU admission requirements in terms of English language requirements for international students.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.

Students can choose to study electives from wider CSU offerings including those offered by the Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security and the Centre for Law and Justice which are recommended. Except for 100 level subjects offered by the School of Indigenous Australian Studies students should choose 200 or 300 level subjects and seek the permission of the Course Director before enrolling. The decision to support or reject a students elective enrolment will be solely focused on whether or not, in the Course Directors opinion, the elective choice would contribute to the learning outcomes for the course.

Note
The Bachelor of Border Management (Customs) is structured with the simple addition of a 4th year specialisation to the existing Charles Sturt Bachelor of Border Management. It is offered for international students only. The four subjects, that constitute the specialisation, translate the students' skills and knowledge from their first 3 years of study to an enhanced level that will make them job ready within their own jurisdiction and domestic legislation

Professional Accreditation

The World Customs Organization (WCO) has accredited the BBM and certified that the academic program meets the WCOs PICARD international standards for the Customs profession.

To maintain accreditation CCES must inform the WCO Secretariat PICARD Coordinator every year about the status of their program (no change, minor/formal changes or substantial changes), providing detailed explanations on the changes if any. The yearly communication must include major figures on graduated students, professors involved and publications produced.
