Normal Course Duration

Course duration referenced below is the effective time taken to complete a course when studied full time (full time equivalent duration). At Charles Sturt the standard calendar refers to 32 points a session over a 2 session calendar year. The Actual Duration is the time taken to complete the course following the prescribed enrolment pattern. A course's actual duration can be affected by the session calendar (number of sessions undertaken per year) and/or mode (full time, part time or mixed) and credit packages which may have been granted upon admission. Therefore, depending on the prescribed enrolment pattern, mode, calendar utilised and credit awarded a course may take less time or more time to complete than the duration noted as full time equivalent years. Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern to determine the actual duration of study.

Admission Criteria

CSU Admission Policy

To be admitted to the Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five Years) students must hold one of the following qualifications:

Diploma of Childrens Services OR
Bachelor of Teaching (Birth to Five Years)(or AQF equivalent) OR
Three-year Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching qualification (or AQF equivalent) from a recognised university.

English Language Proficiency
Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements apply to both domestic and international applicants. Refer to http://futurestudents.csu.edu.au/apply/english-language  for the specific requirements. Offer may be conditional on meeting ELP requirements; if so, applicants will be required to provide evidence of meeting these requirements before the start of studies.

Credit

CSU Credit Policy

The credit arrangements are as follows:

* Students who have completed the Diploma of Childrens Services (now known as the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care CHC50113 - AQF 5) through a Registered Training Organisation within the past 10 years will be granted credit of 128 points in recognition of prior study. This entry-level credit is represented as EDU14C Early Childhood Studies Credit .

* Students who enrol in the Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five Years) course with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching qualification from another University or tertiary institution will be granted entry level credit of 192 points in recognition of prior study. This entry level credit is represented as EDU15C Early Childhood Studies Credit.

Students who enter the course with both the Diploma and a partial early childhood degree from another university may be entitled to further credit for individual subjects if:

*          those subjects were completed at Year 3 level in their prior degree course, and
*          those subjects correlate closely with subjects in the Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five Years) at CSU.

Graduation Requirement

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 256 points.

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five Years) consists of the 12 core subjects (96 points) plus additional restricted elective subjects (dependent on the students specific entry credit), with a total point value for the course of 256 points.

All subjects in the course have a value of 8 points.
