AGR580 Research Methods (8)

This subject is designed specifically for postgraduate students who will undertake a research project in agriculture and related fields. Students enrolled in this subject will be able to apply an appropriate methodological design to research proposals, acquire background on analytical descriptive and inferential statistical methods and gain a detailed understanding of the written aspects of methods in scientific research posters, papers and reports.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to distinguish the differences between descriptive and analytical thinking
  • be able to differentiate between the inductive and deductive paradigms of enquiry and the associated research methodologies to these two paradigms
  • be able to identify the integrative nature of the different components of the research process
  • be proficient in conducting literature reviews and setting up a research proposal
  • be able to acquire skills for descriptive and inferential analysis of research data
  • be able to publish for research purposes (eg research posters and scientific research papers and reports).
