AGS407 Agricultural Industry Internship (16)

The purpose of this subject is to prepare students to enter their chosen career in a supported manner that encourages personal and professional development and integrates them into the agricultural network. Students will work beside a mentor within Industry, applying their academic learning in a professional setting and developing a portfolio of their employability and technical skills. Students will be prepared for their time in industry by addressing topics around reflective practice, workplace dynamics, communication, safety in the workplace and professional conduct. It is intended that students will leave this subject with a refined resume and renewed awareness of professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Preparing for a successful career in Agricultural Industry
  • Developing critical reflective practice
  • Workplace dynamics
  • Communication skills
  • Safety in the workplace
  • Professional conduct (professional behaviour and ethics)

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 30 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students must complete 225 hours on placement (7.5 h/day) within a part of Industry of their choosing (as aligned with their major) working beside an industry mentor.

Residential School

This subject contains a 4 day Compulsory Residential School.

The 4 day residential school will provide the opportunity to immerse students in a community of practice by introducing them to people working in the field in agriculture.  Importantly, it will be an opportunity for students to be supported in the development of their Professional development Plans and to prepare them for placement within industry.

Special Resources

Students attending compulsory workplace learning placements and residential schools on Charles Sturt campuses are responsible for all associated travel, accommodation and required resources.
