BMS265 Integrated Clinical Placement for Medical Laboratory Science 1 (8)

In this subject students will complete a supervised clinical placement and submit a comprehensive portfolio based on their experience. This provides students with the opportunity to integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in the subjects studied and practice and consolidate their skills in a clinical environment. Students will be required to demonstrate their ability to reflect and critically evaluate their practice.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to reflect on clinical experiences and maintain a portfolio identifying clinical/practical experiences and the learning that has taken place as a result of these experiences.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 30 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students undertake 30 days placement at an appropriate sites, for example a pathology or research laboratory. While on placement students will undertake specific tasks related to:

Communication skills and professional behaviour
Collection, preparation and analysis of clinical data and/or specimens
Maintenance and promotion of safe work practices
Professional accountability

During placement students will engage in reflective practice and develop a portfolio which will be submitted for assessment.

Students will be responsible for travel and accommodation while on placement and may be required to attend placement away from their normal residence.

Special Resources

Students attending compulsory workplace learning placements are responsible for all associated travel, accommodation and required resources.
