BMS423 Case Based Learning in Medical Science (8)

This subject reinforces what students have learned in theory, practicals and during placement and covers medical laboratory science as a whole to understand its place in healthcare provision. The student will engage in case studies including, but not limited to, clinical, analytical, Information technology (IT), management and Work health and safety (WHS). Using literature resources students will suggest solutions to authentic problems in a case based teaching subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and critically analyse specific cases/problems in medical laboratory sciences;
  • be able to propose and justify solutions to cases and problems; and
  • be able to work independently and collaboratively to analyse case studies related to medical laboratory science and construct a scientific report of the findings.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Clinical cases within all medical science disciplines Microbiology, Histopathology, Hematology, Biochemistry, Genetics;
  • Work Health and Safety (WHS);
  • Professionalism; and
  • Sustainability.
