BUS505 Australian Business and its Role in the Global Economy (8)

This subject enables on-shore International students to study business, society and culture in a regional Australian setting. The subject will include a range of activities designed to foster student connection with industry such as visits to businesses, government agencies, NGOs, local institutions and authorities; or guest speakers from these sectors. The subject aims to enhance students' familiarity with the Australian workplace, and foster connections with businesses and stakeholders in preparation for work placement.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to evaluate the Australian business context and its place in the global economy;
  • be able to research and critically analyse the drivers of Australian business and in particular those drivers unique to regional Australia;
  • be able to differentiate between and reflect upon the norms in business, culture and society in Australia and the students' home country; and
  • be able to independently examine the impact of their experience in the Australian context.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Cultural diversity, society and doing business in Australia;
  • Regional institutions and business organisations;
  • Australian economic and political history and future outlook;
  • The Australian business regulatory framework;
  • The Australian economic and financial environment; and
  • Challenges, opportunities and current events facing Australian businesses and the contemporary workplace.
