This subject focuses on the employability and personal skills critical for professional practice. The subject has a particular emphasis on enhancing professional knowledge of working in a business environment, and understanding the value of workplace learning and lifelong learning. Students will also audit, reflect on, and expand on their employability skillset.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse the relationship between workplace learning, lifelong learning, career and life development, and apply this personally;
  • be able to critically evaluate personal employability skills, knowledge and capabilities;
  • be able to create an action plan to address existing skills and capabilities gaps; and
  • be able to reflect on personal career and life choices.

  • The 'why' of WPL: History, foundational theory, contemporary thinking, benefits and challenges
  • Reflective practice
  • The relationship between self, work, society and the economy
  • The future of work, portfolio careers, reskilling, deploying and upskilling
  • Lifelong learning and learning theory
  • Employability skills.
