This subject is designed to extend students' employability skills and their understanding of professional practice. The subject is also aimed at developing students' self reflection and self monitoring skills to help build their efficacy and confidence in the work place. As part of this subject, students will gain practical experience and apply their academic learning in a professional setting through a work placement.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to define, evaluate, and reflect on employability skills to plan appropriate professional development activities;
  • be able to explore, develop and evaluate a personal career plan;
  • be able to develop practical competence through personal professional experience by participating in work placement;
  • be able to learn and assess through reflection the required practical and technical skills required of an entry level professional:
  • be able to prepare an effective job application; and
  • be able to explore and enhance personal brand development through academic application and self-development.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Journal keeping and reflective practice
  • Personal branding
  • Online profile and resume development
  • Career planning
  • Job application and interview techniques
  • Supervised placement equivalent to 210 hours
  • Workplace guidance and support.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 30 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students are given the opportunity to develop their employabiity skills through 210 hours of activity completed as a work placement.

Special Resources

Additional travel and accommodation costs may be incurred if a student decides to take up a placement opportunity away from the area of their usual residence.
