EHR128 Understanding Research (8)

This subject assists students to evaluate knowledge sources and develop basic investigation skills related to the disciplines of human movement. The subject further provides an overview of the theory and practice of using and undertaking research for the purpose of becoming competent consumers of peer-reviewed literature and critical thinkers in the broad field of human movement and sports media. Students will further develop skills to read and critically analyse research. In addition to exploring the relationship between theory and practice, stages of the research process will be examined. Concepts to be addressed in this subject include accessing knowledge and critiquing sources of information, basic data collection and analysis techniques in quantitative and qualitative paradigms. Students will consider the ethics of conducting research in the field of human movement, with a particular focus on working with Indigenous Australian peoples. The subject will develop and enhance student's literacy and numeracy skills in relation to reading and conducting research in the field.
