EMT441 Curriculum Method: Agriculture (8)

This subject explores agricultural education as a medium for secondary school students' development. It examines current Years 7-12 syllabus guides and outcomes, curriculum material and recent research in technology and agricultural education and provides the context for a developmental framework for education. The focus of the subject is on promoting skills in selecting, planning and implementing teaching sequences within a constructivist learning model and productive pedagogies frameworks. It further incorporates cross-curriculum priority area of sustainability and general capabilities of critical thinking, ethical understanding, information and communication technology capability, literacy, numeracy and difference and diversity. In addition, it addresses programming and standards referencing assessment practices.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to explain agriculture and technology as modes of human enquiry;
  • be able to initiate and guide learning experiences in a safe working environment;
  • be able to design lesson sequences consistent with constructivist principles;
  • be able to design teaching units from appropriate syllabuses that incorporate strategies that enhance literacy, numeracy, information and communication technologies, and meet the needs of diverse student cohorts;
  • be able to construct program outlines that are sensitive to student and community needs;
  • be able to select resource materials to support quality teaching; and
  • be able to plan assessment and evaluation strategies and tasks.
