EPT140 Professional Experience: Birth to 2 years (8)

This subject will assist teacher education students to acquire an understanding of quality environments for infants and toddlers in early childhood education and care services. The subject incorporates a 15 day supervised workplace learning placement, where students will develop and demonstrate responsive caregiving and education practices that address the individual capacities of children birth-2 years. The placement will also provide the opportunity for teacher education students to develop skills in observing, planning, implementing and reflecting on appropriate experiences for infants and toddlers. They will begin to develop their E-Portfolio as part of the employability stream.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to begin articulating a narrative around the philosophy of teaching by creating a visual image of a teacher in the E-Portfolio environment;
  • be able to identify a goal, pertaining to the knowledge required for implementing effective teaching and caregiving pedagogy for children birth-2 years and discuss in relation to their own personal development as a teacher;
  • be able to identify and reflect on appropriate practice for planning and implementing suitable learning experiences and creating a supportive learning environment for infants and toddlers as a personal goal;
  • be able to identify an aspect of improving professional learning, collaborating with colleagues and parents/carers, and abiding by policies and regulations governing the early childhood sector while on placement and discuss how this applies to them; and
  • be able to demonstrate engagement with each criteria of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
