It examines traditional and emerging means of providing access to learning resources, and the application of metadata standards to ensure effective information organisation. While the focus is on schools, the broad principles apply to a variety of information environments.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to understand the importance of effective organisation of learning resources for successful information retrieval;
  • be able to understand the relationship between information retrieval systems and the description and analysis of resources;
  • be able to apply national and international metadata standards; and
  • be able to utilise these standards to provide effective access to information for the school community.
