HLT523 Assessment in Clinical Education (8)

This subject applies the principle of transformative learning to explore the role that assessment and feedback plays in clinical education for students and clinicians, and ultimately, the provision of safe and competent patient care. The different categories and purposes of assessment will be examined, along with the necessary features of a valid and reliable assessment tool. Students will learn how to identify and implement an evidence-based assessment tool to assess a clinician and then reflect on this experience to expand their skills as an assessor in the clinical context. The use of constructive alignment between assessment, learning objectives and learning activities will be considered, as well as the role of the clinical educator in identifying and managing underperformance in the health sector.
