HML502 Improving Health Care Quality (8)

This subject examines a range of approaches for improving health care quality. Different forms of leadership for quality management, commonly-used quality management tools and their applications, and methods of health data analysis are presented. Students ability to support workplace safety will be facilitated by learning how to monitor and improve adherence to industry standards and to evaluate serious incident management policy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to discuss the relative importance of different forms of leadership for quality management in health care;
  • be able to describe commonly-used quality management tools and their applications in health care;
  • be able to analyse health data using descriptive analysis;
  • be able to develop an audit for monitoring and responding to levels of adherence to standards and accreditation requirements to ensure a safe workplace; and
  • be able to critically evaluate local policy for serious incident management requiring a multi-agency/disaster response.

  • TOPIC 7: Risk management - corporate, clinical and workplace;
  • TOPIC 8: Supporting a secure work environment;
  • TOPIC 9: Work Health and Safety;
  • TOPIC 10: Insurance management;
  • TOPIC 11: Evaluating processes and services;
  • TOPIC 12: Managing serious/multi-agency incidents and disasters; and
  • TOPIC 13: Consumer experience.
