In this subject, students will develop practical insights into real-world research writing and dissemination processes. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the world of professional research by working through the process of writing a dissertation for examination under the guidance of their research supervisor(s).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to with supervisory guidance, write a publishable report of a completed research project detailing the rationale, methodology, findings and a discussion of relevant limitations and implications;
  • be able to demonstrate capacity for future higher-degree research by showing the personal initiative and time management skills required to write a research dissertation within a given time frame; and
  • be able to have developed the knowledge, skills, and capacity to undertake and present an independent research program at Honours level.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Considerations when choosing avenues for disseminating research findings;
  • Considerations when choosing a journal in which to publish research findings;
  • Self-management tips for writing a research dissertation; and
  • Presentation skills.
