HSM401 Reflecting on Health Care Systems (8)

Students study foundational concepts underpinning health care systems, including models of health and healthcare, measures of health, illness and disability, determinants of health and their impact on health status; health economics, policy and key stakeholders. Students examine the nature of institutional and non- institutional care, private- public sector relationships and the healthcare workforce as key contextual influences on health management practice. Trends in healthcare financing, organisation and management are reviewed, and students explore the nature of other healthcare systems. Students are presented with a framework for understanding conceptual issues, current delivery issues and emerging trends and reflect on their own workplace experience to articulate tacit understandings of their health care system and their health management practice.
