HSS501 Community Contexts (4)

This subject provides an examination of the social contexts that influence community leadership and resilience. It begins by considering the contested nature of concepts like community, community resilience and community leadership and related social theories. Socio-cultural, political, economic and environmental factors influencing the lived experience of community leadership and resilience are also analysed. This includes the impacts of socially inequitable patterning of leadership and resilience among communities, for example by social class, gender and cultural background. Attention is also paid to institutional, community-led and partnership-based initiatives to foster community leadership and resilience. The subject is designed with adaptable delivery models, which may include combinations of condensed online sessions and one-off workshops.
