This subject provides a broad overview of literature and other resources for children and young adults from an information professional's perspective. This subject traces the development of literature and other resources paying particular attention to the technological, cultural and social influences that have shaped this development. A range of genres and formats are explored and attention given to new and emergent trends in reading and engagement with materials and formats. The role that public libraries and librarians play in these trends will be discussed. The subject also explores the role of the library in literacy development and promoting engagement with reading for pleasure and recreation.
