This subject will expose students to a range of information agencies to develop a deeper understanding of both the career opportunities available within the profession, and how various information agencies function to service a particular clientele.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe and critically evaluate the operation of a range of information agencies and how these interact with their users;
  • be able to describe the range and variety of information agencies and the services they offer, with consideration of frameworks, standards and professional practice; and
  • be able to critically reflect upon how theoretical and technical knowledge is applied in the workplace.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Overview of a variety of libraries and information organisations
  • Provide a link between practice and classroom learning

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 4 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students visit a range of information agencies (i.e. libraries, archives, records management organisations) where the staff share with students the services, collections and facilities offered by that particular organisation. Students reflect on their experience in a written assessment task.
