This subject requires students to immerse themselves within a range of social networking environments and evaluate their learning experiences throughout the session as both social networkers and information professionals.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to appraise and apply social networking technologies in professional settings;
  • be able to compare and explain the concepts, theories and practices of participatory information services;
  • be able to critically evaluate the ability of the features and functions of various social networking tools to meet the information needs of users;
  • be able to critically judge the ability of the features and functions of social networking technologies and software to support the collaborative needs of workgroups, communities and organisations; and
  • be able to evaluate the social, cultural, educational, ethical, and technical management issues that exist in a socially networked world, and how information policy is developed and implemented to support such issues.
