INF572 Professional Placement (2)

This workplace learning subject builds on INF571 Planning for Professional Placement. In this subject students will undertake the 10 day professional placement approved in INF571. Students will gain a deeper understanding of information organisations and apply theoretical skills and knowledge. The placement is aligned with the student's career goals and professional expectations/standards. Students will demonstrate an ability to effectively engage in and reflect on real-life working environments.

This subject is the second of two Professional Placement subjects. In this subject students will undertake their professional placement and write a reflective report.

This subject is not available to students who have successfully completed subjects ETL507 or INF208 or INF222 or INF408.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to contextualise and evaluate an information workplace and the role and function in the community it serves;
  • be able to analyse and apply relevant theories to practical situations;
  • be able to demonstrate effective engagement in an information workplace setting;
  • be able to critically reflect on, and articulate, their workplace learning experiences; and
  • be able to successfully complete a minimum 10 day placement in a role that meets the professional standards required by accrediting bodies.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 10 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Students complete a ten day placement with an approved host information organisation (i.e. libraries, archives, records management organisations etc.). The student is supervised by a qualified information professional while they are participating in a range of appropriate tasks in a real workplace context. The students reflect on their experience in a written assessment task.
